Sea Eagle Headdress Wood FeatherThis impressive Sea Eagle Headdress was hand carved in 1999 by Tom D. Hunt from the Kwakwakawakw Nation. It is carved from red cedar, painted in acrylic, and finished with cedar bark. It was acquired from a collection and is in excellent condition. Sea Eagle, or Kwigwis, is a supernatural being from Kwakwaka'wakw mythology that acts as Eagle's counterpart in the Undersea Kingdom. Those to whom Kwigwis appeared were said to be blessed by the encounter.

The basic thought behind this creation was that if we identify with Christ in his crucifixion and death

we were able to select a 225 year-old red cedar that fell during the massive windstorm of 2006 at the park
